BIOGRAPHY:
I began my career when I was given the opportunity to work for Mark Hall and Brian Cosgrove at their newly created company "Stop Frame Animation" This was early in 1973.

Whilst there I quickly graduated from trainee to assistant cameraman, working on productions such as "Sally and Jake" for The TV series "RAINBOW" (Bungle, Zippy and George anyone??) and "NODDY" for Thames Television. Lighting in those days was more a case of illumination than a creative process, and by today's standards those old series look dreadful. Multiple shadows and full of flicker.

I worked for Mark and Brian for about 2 years, before leaving to join a small firm which specialised in the production of 35mm TV commercials.

As in any small company there was ample opportunity to be involved in all areas of the production process. Upon leaving there I joined a Rostrum Camera House and spent my time producing 35mm commercials for the regional TV companies. This gave me valuable management and organisational skills, and also gave me the opportunity to expand on the ideas I had for lighting.

It was around this time that I was contacted by Granada Television, who had heard of my experience using the Oxberry Aerial Image Camera. This was basically an elaborate optical printer, used mainly for title sequences and Travelling Matte work. They had just purchased one and needed an operator.

That was the beginning of a 20 year staff job with ITV that gave me the opportunity to work on many of their iconic programs. It was here that I was able to hone my skills as a lighting cameraman. We ran a special effects department, and had the first mobile Motion Control Rig in the UK. We travelled extensively, both here and in Europe , shooting mainly commercials, but we were also involved in shooting 2 feature films.

In 2004 I was approached by Mark Hall and Brian Cosgrove, my first employers, to work for them on the re-boot of the animated series "Postman Pat." Since that time I have been operating as a freelance DOP / Editor / Compositor for many independent animation, and live action productions.
